Anson
Mills was named one of the Top 15 Artisan Producers in
America for 2005 by Newsweek / MSNBC.
Anson Mills was founded in 1998 to support the preservation
of Southern heirloom corn, rice and wheat—and the
artisan milling practices associated with them. This effort
also involved historic foodways research to restore and
develop authentic Southern recipes based upon these grains.
In 2003 Anson Mills widened its mission to partner in the
restoration of select heirloom grains—and their
foodways—worldwide, including Italian maize and
farro, corn from Chiapas and rice from South America. Anson
Mills is currently engaged in the restoration of antique
Asian buckwheat varieties and primordial wheats of the
Mediterranean rim.
